Showing the Colours
I had to go to the American embassy to pick up my father-in-law's visa for a US visit. I stood in line for ten minutes waiting to get to the front to pick up the document from the nice, and obviously American lady handing them out. (Her Chicago accent was unmistakable). Watching over her was a guard, unarmed, but still, there for her protection obviously. I found myself looking at him and wondering if he was up from south of the border too, or was he a local hired on here.As I got to the front of the line I got my answer. He was whistling while he stood there, and though it took me a second to recognize the tune, I fairly quickly clued in. He was standing in front of the US embassy, guarding an American who was handing out US travel documents, and whistling "The Maple Leaf Forever"!
I had a tough time not laughing out loud!
